Department of Music Studies
This compulsory seminar in the Music Education specialisation introduces fundamental principles and practices of research methodology in an accessible, experiential way. Through guided reading and discussion of research sources, practical activities and collaborative exercises, students become familiar with designing and conducting small-scale field research.
Core research methodologies and methods of collecting research data are presented and discussed through music education literature. Clear examples support students in practising data analysis and developing their understanding and critical skills. Ethical issues and research integrity are also addressed in line with contemporary international practice.
By the end of the course, students will have gained sufficient familiarity with research in music education, alongside the basic knowledge and skills needed to undertake an undergraduate research dissertation or further develop their research interests in the field.
