Aims and Objectives


The establishment of the Music Pedagogy Laboratory aims to provide the graduates and postgraduate students of the Department of Music Studies, as well as prospective doctoral candidates, music educators, and individuals interested in music, with the necessary infrastructure for their advanced academic development, the ability to acquire and utilize new research and teaching tools in Music, and the rapid adaptation to the current and future demands of music education in Greece and the international community.

The laboratory's objective is to serve educational and research needs in the following fields related to the theory and practice of teaching and learning music:

  • Teaching, psychological, anthropological, philosophical, and historical dimensions of Music Education.
  • Sociological, psychological, and cultural issues influencing the role of Music and the attitudes and behaviors of participants in formal, informal, and non-formal music contexts.
  • Methodological and pedagogical approaches (interdisciplinary approach, intercultural approach, collaborative teaching, creativity, critical thinking, etc.) in the subject of Music, both in general education and in specialized music education (Music Schools, Conservatories, Music Academies).
  • Study and analysis, as well as comparative historical evolution, of music education systems, methods, and curricula.
  • Study and understanding of the interaction and interconnection of Music, as a teaching subject, with other arts (visual arts, theater, dance) and other academic subjects within a learning environment.
  • Initial education and training, lifelong learning, and professional development of music educators, professionals in various fields, and adults.
  • Learning and Teaching of Music in new technological environments, new tools, and models of integration and utilization of new technologies in Music Education.
  • Assessment of the learning process in all environments and forms of music teaching and learning.
  • Techniques, tools, models of assessment of music teaching and learning.
  • Study and research on the perception and understanding of Music through psychological, cognitive, neurobiological, and technological approaches.
  • Study and research on the media, tools, repertoire, and learning materials used in all levels and environments of Music Education.
